Joseph Z. Yousefian, DMD, MS, MA, PS

Joseph Z. Yousefian obtained his degree in dentistry from Washington University in St. Louis, in 1987 and went on to complete three years of post-graduate training in orthodontics at the Ohio State University. He has also received a very unique Master of Science degree in Physical Anthropology. This added knowledge enables Dr. Yousefian to customize the treatment results according to the patient's ethnic background.

In the spring of 1997, Dr. Yousefian became one of very few doctors in the Eastside who has been certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. In the Northwest, he is the only certified member of the highly selective American Lingual Orthodontic Association (ALOA).

Dr. Yousefian has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Orthodontic Research Associate at the Ohio State University and the University of Washington, Department of Orthodontics. He is an active participant and member of the Roth Williams Foundation for Advanced Orthodontics and TMJ Education and Research.

Dr. Yousefian's passion for scientific research has won him numerous accolades, including the internationally recognized American Association of Orthodontists Award of Special Merit. He has contributed as a main author to multiple publications in renowned magazines, such as The American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Harvard Society for the Advancement of Orthodontics as well as several chapters in three textbooks.

In 1996 and 1998, Dr. Yousefian obtained two undisputed patents on orthodontic appliances termed the Full Arch Spring Retainer™ and Molar Distalization Appliance™ which are currently manufactured and distributed internationally by leading orthodontic laboratories.

His memberships in various professional associations include the College of Diplomates of American Board of Orthodontics, American Lingual Orthodontic Association, Roth Williams International Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Seattle King County Dental Society and Washington State Dental Association.

Dr. Yousefian has been practicing orthodontics in the Northwest since 1991. His practice is in Bellevue, and he resides in Mercer Island with his wife, Rozita, and his son, Ryan.
