Pediatric Orthodontics

v-braces5.jpgFor many teenagers, wearing braces is a part of life – an important part of life because a beautiful and healthy smile can boost one’s self-confidence. Children at this age are growing rapidly, and orthodontists can usually take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape the bite and teeth correctly. Pre-teens and teenagers have a very fast rate of growth and development , which can help shorten overall treatment time and reduce the discomfort of orthodontic treatment. In our Bellevue office, it is crucial to begin treatment during the pediatric age period for proper prevention of any airway and TMJ related issues. Additionally, Dr. Yousefian being a children’s airway specialist can take action in preventing these issues non-surgically!

Pediatric Orthodontic Treatment Process

Typically, Phase II treatment is normal orthodontic treatment, which involves placing braces on the patient once his or her permanent teeth have erupted. The braces straighten the permanent teeth and finish correctly aligning the patient’s jaw. By age 12, most, if not all, permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, which is when crooked teeth; gaps and bad bites can easily be detected. These problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment for their children.

Types Of Braces

Are all braces the same? Not anymore! Modern science and technology have brought into the orthodontic market smaller, less noticeable, and even invisible braces. With these advances, more people are able to have healthier mouths thus improving their self-esteem and confidence at home, school, and work. Patients are actually enjoying treatment and are having fun with their braces! Which braces are for you?

  • In-Ovation R – self-ligating, high speed stainless steel brackets.

  • In-Ovation C – self-ligating, high speed clear brackets

  • In-Ovation L – self-ligating high speed lingual (invisible) brackets
