How Invisalign® Gives You a Beautiful Smile Without Anyone Noticing

If you’ve wanted to get braces, no matter what your age, you may feel put off by the thought of having a mouthfull of metal. Few people like to wear traditional metal braces, even if they need them.
But there’s an alternative to metal braces for many people, and it’s a lot more palatable. Invisalign® is a system of clear aligners that you wear to gradually reshape the position of your teeth. It’s virtually invisible unless someone gets close to you. Dr. Joseph Z. Yousefian of Yousefian Orthodontics for Children, Teens and Adults in Bellevue, Washington, explains more about how Invisalign can transform your smile.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a system of clear thermoplastic aligners that are custom-made using a 3D model to fit your individual mouth.
Dr. Yousefian takes an image of your mouth and can model the results you can expect from treatment. You’ll wear the Invisalign aligners every day, on average for 6-15 months. You’ll switch out the aligners after a couple of weeks to a new set to accommodate your shifting teeth until you reach the desired results.
You’ll see Dr. Yousefian about every 6 weeks to monitor your progress and make sure that your teeth are shifting as planned.
What kinds of problems Invisalign can fix
Invisalign can’t fix all types of dental issues, but it can fix more than you might expect. Invisalign can alleviate the following problems:
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Overbites
- Underbites
- Crossbites
- Crooked teeth
Even if you have previous dental restoration work, such as crowns or bridges, Invisalign may still work for you.
There are different Invisalign options depending on how much work you need, from the Lite option to the Comprehensive option. We can help you find the option that will work best for your needs.
The best way to determine whether Invisalign can work to correct your dental issues is to make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Yousefian.
What to expect from Invisalign treatment
Invisalign treatment is usually successful for most people as long as you follow the orthodontist’s requirements.
You need to wear your Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours a day. You can take them out to eat or drink, but you need to put them back in after brushing your teeth. If you don’t wear them for the recommended amount of time each day, your results will be slower, and the aligners may not work as well for you.
You may experience some discomfort after you put in a new aligner, which you’ll do about every 2 weeks. This discomfort is normal and should subside in a day or so. Don’t take out your aligners during this phase of adjustment; you’ll get used to them.
Advantages of Invisalign
Invisalign has a lot of advantages, especially when compared with traditional metal braces. Some of those advantages include:
- They’re more aesthetically pleasing
- You can remove them for eating, which means you don’t have to avoid certain foods
- You can clean your teeth more effectively than with metal braces
- You don’t have to worry about issues like broken brackets or wires
Because they’re virtually invisible, Invisalign aligners are more appealing to most people. Particularly if you’re an adult, you may find it much more realistic and attainable to pursue straighter teeth.
You may have to wear a retainer after you’ve finished with your aligners to be able to maintain the results of your new smile, but this is usually a minor issue.
If you want to have a new, straight smile, Invisalign could provide just the right answer for you. Call Dr. Joseph Z. Yousefian at Yousefian Orthodontics for Children, Teens and Adults or request an appointment online.
